The smartphone has been integrated into nearly every aspect of modern life. Golf being no exception. A recent search in iTunes returned 75 results for Golf Instruction, 96 for Golf News, 96 for Golf Caddy, and 442 for Golf GPS. The choices in golf apps are essentially the same whether you are using an iPhone or Android device.
It is easy to use golf apps everywhere from your morning commute on the train, to the 18th green. Breaking down the field can prove a little more difficult. With many apps doing essentially the same thing, what you put ‘in your bag’ may come down to price and having a slick interface.
Many apps are free to download and supported by the occasional pop-up ad. The fabulous Golf Channel app being one worthy of note. Shelling out .99c could be a substantial upgrade sometimes, however.
While the capabilities of smartphones are amazing, they do lead to one question. Is there anywhere left where you can disconnect from the world? The golf course may be the last bastion of solitude left for some. Whether your smartphone will be clipped to your belt is up to you.
